Podcast 33 – Governors & Redistricting

  1. Interesting discussion guys! I have been following the redistricting in Indiana at the state level and it will be interesting to see how this turns out. Todd Rokita and Chief Justice Shepard have both been pushing for the lines to be drawn fairly. However, it will be interesting for two reasons: (1) Rokita is now in Congress and Shepard is taking over the Secretary of State office until the special prosecutors come back with their ruling on Charlie White, the SoS-elect with previous registration issues when he was on Fishers Town Council. (2) Republicans have a huge majority in the Statehouse — 60 to 40 (1 seat was won by 8 votes, which is in challenge still) in the House and a supermajority in the Senate at 37-13.

Check out the SoS website on redistricting here => http://www.rethinkingredistricting.com/

Rokita’s goal is to reduce voter confusion and provide compactness, competition, and respect to communities with the lines.

Note: Rokita’s plan also has a proposed map, using 2000 Census data, on Congressional districts as well! Which, if it were adopted, would change the district Delaware County falls under.

  2. O, on the Sarah Palin bet, I have dibs on Chip!
